Success with Visualisation
66Success with Visualisation
This is a brief introduction to a course I am preparing with the same name. Visualisation is a tried and tested method, but so many people seem to have difficulty. This course will give you all the pieces you need to make visualisation work for you, and this page will give you an outline of the steps involved.
All the steps you need will be on this page, I will not leave any step out, so you can take the information on this page and run with it. If you would like to deepen your understanding and use of the technique, get in touch, I may be able to help with just an email, or you may choose to come on the next course.
First Step: Know what you want!
Here are three questions which, if you answer them, will take you on your visualisation journey. What is it that you actually want? How would you know that you have it? What would your sensory experience be, if you had that, now?
One way to think about this is to write down what someone else would see and hear if they were to see you as successful in the way you want to be. You will come back to this information later.
Second step: Learn to relax
There are many ways that you can do this. Information about self hypnosis, or progressive relaxation is readily available. This is a very important step, so take the time to find a method that works for you. My preference is self hypnosis, other people like to listen to binaural beats, or a piece of calming music they keep just for their visualisation practice.
Find a method that works for you and practice it!
Yes, visualisation is more work than just...visualising!
Step Three: What would you see if...
Take some time to review what it is that you want and what you would see/hear and feel if you had it now. Then take yourself in to a relaxed state and imagine your success as if looking through your own eyes. What would you see? Take time to imagine that in whatever detail you can. It doesn't have to be in cinema quality high definition! Just get a sense of it and notice as you see your success, however you can do that now, you begin to experience the positive feelings that go along with your success.
Enjoying those feelings consider what you would hear if you were to have achieved your success. 'Hear' means what you would say to yourself, inside, as well as what you would hear others say to you. Perhaps you would be saying something like, ' I really made it!' and your loved ones would be congratulating you. Notice the positive feelings, pride perhaps, that grow as you hear their comments.
Step Four: Listen to the Still Small Voice
Practise the above visualisation daily and at the end of each session ask yourself, with a feeling of curiosity and wonder, 'what would be one thing I can do today that would move me towards my success?'
Then be open to inspiration. Inspiration comes when it comes. You can have an attitude of joyful expectation, and then relax and let it go (new age speak for 'forget about it!). You create the conditions for inspiration to come, you do not force inspiration or control it's schedule!
When the inspiration comes with an idea about what you could do to move towards your goal...
Take action!
Create your vision in the world of form. That is...do something to make to make it happen. Not in a manic frenzy, but following the inspired ideas that will come. Take the next smallest step .
Step Five
What you have above is the core process. It is presented in very basic, albeit functional fashion, on this page. If you are interested in a more 'bells and whistles' version, either online or live, get i touch. If you are interested in being coached through the process either by email or on skype, get in touch!
One of my mentors, Carl Harvey also offers a brilliant video course, which got me started on a regular practice of visualisation! So if you are thinking to yourself, what can I actually do next to deepen my understanding, this would be a good place to go. Click on the link here to my blog and you will get access to the link to Carl's site.
I look forward to hearing from you!

oldrick: I have the impression that sometimes visualizers trick themselves into believing that they have done enough visualization when really they haven't. What are the clues for the not enough vs enough vs too much stages?

When we are told to do something,{like using visualisation to acheve success} Too often we are not giving the specifics on how to do that.
Good information here.
